Gallery. The Art of Perception
An exquisite collection of essays on the most important masterpieces of European painting and sculpture from the Renaissance to contemporary art written by Maria Poprzęcka, a historian of art. The essays were first published in “Wysokie Obcasy”, a supplement to “Gazeta Wyborcza”. We do not have enough time for looking, and looking, as well as making friends, requires time, writes Maria Poprzęcka paraphrasing Georgia O’Keeffe, an American painter, and she adds: Each of these short texts concentrates on one work of art, and their aim is to make the reader curious, to show how much we can see in a painting if we devote a little time and attention to looking. The essays, accompanied by reproductions of paintings and photographs of sculptures, create a vast panorama of history of art.
